Phoebe Waller-Bridge is having an epic award season, having swept the board at the Golden Globes, the Critic’s Choice awards and now she’s won the Outstanding Female Actor in a Comedy at the SAG Awards 2020.
The star and creator of Fleabag beat the likes of The Marvelous Mrs Maisel star, Rachel Bosnahan, to take home the iconic award for her work in the much-lauded second season of the hit BBC show.
The SAG Awards, which celebrate actors on both TV and movies, are voted for by the actors exclusively and it’s one of the final award season ceremonies before the Oscars with the BAFTAs 2020 also taking place next week.
Taking to the stage to collect yet another award from Stranger Things star, Millie Bobby Brown, Phoebe Waller-Bridge said, “Oh my god. Thank you everyone. Normally I try to be spontaneous in these speeches but I don’t trust myself to get bleebed out again so I have written something down.”
After thanking her incredible team who she called a “party crowd,” she said: “at some point, it will all hit me and I will have a good old cry about it.”
Phoebe also joked about the, “six-pack my makeup artist drew on me,” as she wore another ‘naked dress’ on the SAG Awards 2020 red carpet.
It’s the British actress’ first SAG Award and appearing slightly overcome with emotion, Phoebe continued to say: “Tonight as a Fleabag gang we will soak this up ... in a room I never imagined I would be in.
“This whole thing really has been a dream and if I wake up tomorrow and discover it has been just that then thank you, it has been the most beautiful dream,” she concluded fighting back tears.
Fleabag itself did miss out on the top award for Best Comedy Series to Amazon Prime series, The Marvellous Mrs Maisel.
Elsewhere Brad Pitt also continued his winning streak for his role in Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, taking home the award for Best Supporting Actor and joked he was going to update his Tinder profile with the award.
