Just when you thought that the drama-rama between the Sex and The City cast couldn't get any more intense, it took a dramatic turn on Monday night when Kim Cattrall called her former co-stars "toxic" and said that all they had in common was the show.
Since the show wrapped in 2004, Cattrall has spent much of her time working in theatre, often in Britain, and has thus not been in New York often. However, last week her co-stars said that the only thing getting in the way of a second Sex and the City film sequel were Cattrall's "diva" demands.
"They all have children and I am ten years older and since specifically the series ended I have been spending most of my time outside of New York so I don't see them," Cattrall told Piers Morgan on his Life Stories show. "The common ground that we had was the series and the series is over."
Sarah Jessica Parker and Cynthia Nixon are both married, while Kristin Davis adopted a daughter in 2011. Cattrall, twice married, is currently single, and she has issues about how her castmates dealt with the idea of her "holding up" a sequel.
"And that's another thing that's really disappointing is that nobody ever picks up the phone and tries to contact you and say, 'how you doing?' That would have been the way to handle it," said Cattrall.
"And usually what happens in a healthy relationship is that someone, or a transaction for a job in my business, is that someone says, 'are you available?' and you say 'yes' and here's the job and you say 'yes but thank you very much but I'm sort of over here right now but thank you very much' and that person turns to you and they say 'that's great, good luck to you, I wish you the best.' That's not what happened here, this is, it feels like a toxic relationship."
She confirmed that she would never play Samantha Jones again, and added: "For me it's over, it's over with no regrets, I just wish that Sarah had been nicer."
Last week, Sarah Jessica Parker confirmed in an interview with Extra that Sex and The City 3 wasn't going ahead. "It's not halted. It's over. We're not doing it," she said. "I'm disappointed. We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story."
SJP didn't state why but obviously the Daily Mail thought they'd wade in. The site published the story that it it wasn't happening because the film producer's couldn't keep up with Kim Cattrall's "demands". She then took to Twitter to fight her corner...
BUT fellow SATC actor, Willie Garson who played Stanford Blatch, then seemed to agree with the reports, tweeting that "sadly, the reasons are true." He then retweeted the Daily Mail article. Ouch.
Kim then proceeded to spend the day retweeting her supporters...
AND she even retweet someone saying Sex and The City 2 was terrible...
BUT THEN Willie got back involved, tweeting one of Sam's fans "Huh?"
He then tweeted "Dissapointed for all crew holding on for negotiations to conclude for their jobs, and of course, for the fans. Leave it at that. #Truth" but has since deleted it.
It's not over yet...
Kristin Davis, aka Charlotte, started liking tweets from fans expressing how disappointed they are at the news, including one from Sia:
She then voiced her own thoughts on Instagram saying how "deeply frustrating" it was that the film wouldn't go ahead:
Cynthia Nixon aka Miranda and SJP are yet to comment on the latest.
Kim Cattrall had actually expressed that she wasn't keen on a third movie last year so this shouldn't come as a total surprise.
In an interview with The Daily Record , Kim said: "Everyone is doing their own thing and if it was going to happen, it would have happened by now. It would be a challenge to do a third instalment. It could be fun though. To say goodbye completely to Samantha would be pretty hard."
She also made an interesting observation: "I think the climate changed. To have four women talking about shopping trips and spending $400 on shoes when people are having trouble putting food on the table? It doesn't mean we don't need that but I think the pendulum swung in a different direction."
Are you gutted? We are but Kim shouldn't have to work on a project she doesn't want to, don't you think?
