Warning: Top Boy SPOILERS

The fifth season of Top Boy has landed on Netflix to rave reviews and has officially tied up the loose ends on any unanswered questions we had in previous seasons.

Yes, that's right, the show has officially come to an end, with Dushane, Sully and co not returning for a sixth season - Or season three, how you look at it (the first two seasons of the show aired on Channel 4 in 2011 and 2013, and the next three seasons landed on Netflix thanks to backing from Drake who serves as an executive producer).

"What a final season 🔥 Sad that it’s over 😢#TopBoy #TopBoyNetflix," one person tweeted, while another added: "#TopBoySeason3 #Topboy #TopBoyNetflix Wow. What a masterpiece. Can’t believe it’s over. Sully is the OG." A third added: "I really binge watched the last season of #TopBoy. I swore I wouldn’t. Now I’m sad cause it’s over 🤦🏾‍♀️."

And if you, like the rest of the Top Boy's fan base, are devastated that the show has ended and don't understand why, here's the reason.

In a recent interview with GQ, the show's actor Ashley Walters said: "[Netflix] wanted to go on forever! And Kane [Robinson] and I were like, 'Personally, we can't.' We don't think it's the right thing to do. It may have gone on too long, anyway.

"Not that it's not been great, and the seasons have all been great, and everyone's loved them, and I've loved them. But it wouldn’t have been right. I like to end on a high."

Director William Stefan Smith, who helmed the series first two episodes of the series, also added that the entire production of Top Boy had a mutual goal to "bring the story to a close with the utmost care and heart" and ensure not to leave "no loose ends".

A joint statement released on behalf of the cast to coordinate with the final season announcement reads: “For those that have followed the journey from the start, you will know how much this show means to everyone on our team, and we wholeheartedly know how much it means to you. These characters have been a part of our lives for over a decade now and without everyone’s support we couldn’t have come this far.”

It continues: “Whilst the journeys of Dushane and Sully have remained at the core of the show, the new characters that have entered the world of Top Boy have become a key part of the show’s legacy, representing each new storyline in a raw, authentic way. With all this being said, and staying true to our original goal, every story must have an ending, and so season three will be our finale. A chance to come full circle and end the journey in the right way."

Meanwhile, despite the show's title, this season also featured a host of incredible female talent who completed season five, including the return of Little Simz, reviving her leading role as Shelley (the girlfriend of one of the two drug dealers at the heart of the story, Dushane – played by Walters). Other returning female leads include Jasmine Jobson (as Jaq) and Saffron Hocking (as her sister, Lauryn). So, at least we got to see a whole load of girl power before Top Boy ended!
